THE GATES OF THE CITY

During the process of urban expansion, massive walls were erected to protect the invaders, to delimit the city boundary or built to celebrate the important entrances into the city like triumphal arches. These include: Porta Felice, Porta Nuova, Porta Carini, Porta dei Greci, monumental entrance of Via Roma, Porta Montalto, Porta della Calcina, Porta Sant'Agata, Porta Mazara.
